The Flip Ultra HD hit the word by storm in the last decade. They were so popular you could find them in just about any electronics store including Wal-mart. It was the next big thing in simple video recording. It offered the convenience because of its size, the simplicity because its ease of use, and then the power with its 720p high definition capabilities.
It was common or normal to see people with a Flip Ultra HD just about anywhere. And it caught on fast like when Ipod’s came out. Well, it was a nice long run and the Flip Video Camera did a lot for all us “want something simple that gets the job done” kind of people. I say that because Cisco bought the company that makes Flip 2 years ago for 590 million and then just announced a few months ago that they are dropping the camcorder that made millions happy. What a waste of $590 million eh? Anyway, that is another story. Cisco said they wanted to focus on other things and basically said that because most smartphones now have HD video recording capabilities that it is not worth continuing making and improving the Flip line. Well, one man’s word is not much, but I can tell you so far they made a big mistake.
Why? Well, for one people are still buying these things like crazy and you can argue it is because they are not many left and people want to get one before they are hard to find, but why buy something that is supposedly not good anymore? That doesn’t make sense to me. In my opinion people are still buying this camcorder because it still is very powerful and much easier to use than even using the video recording feature on a smart phone. I know that I have a smart phone with HD video and it can be complicated to use if I wasn’t tech savvy.
So, the question is should you get your hands on a Flip Ultra HD before they are all gone? I say definitely yes if you are the type that wants something simple that delivers awesome, crisp video. You can still use all its features including the support for the software it comes with because Cisco didn’t drop this. They are still going to offer support for the Flip online and for the Flipshare software. ( this software is what makes it so easy to tranfer your video over to your computer and for online use). So are you buying something outdated? If you consider something that is not being manufactured by the company anymore outdated then yes, but if you consider something that is still being used like crazy worldwide and still is selling like crazy on Amazon, then no it is not outdated. The Flip Ultra HD is still a very useful camcorder and still will be for many years to come.
